Claiming to establish a new standard for x86-compatible computing platforms, the Efficeon TM8000 microprocessor family is poised for use in portable computers, tablet PCs, thin clients, and embedded applications. The devices exploit a unique silicon micro-architecture, based on a 256-bit VLIW processor that can issue up to eight instructions per clock cycle. A variety of interfaces are integrated that eliminate the need for a northbridge chip. These interfaces include AGP-4X graphics, a DDR-400 SDRAM memory interface with ECC code available as an option, and a HyperTransport interface that operates at data speeds up to 1.6 GB/s. Other processor features include a low pin count bus interface to accommodate current flash memory. For further information and prices, contact TRANSMETA CORP., Santa Clara, CA. (408) 919-3000.
