Development Tool Will Enhance The ARM Neon

March 8, 2011
ARM has released Development Studio 5 v5.4 (SD-5 v5.4), which delivers enhancements to its compiler, debugger, and performance analysis tools.

Cambridge, England: ARM has released Development Studio 5 v5.4 (SD-5 v5.4), which delivers enhancements to its compiler, debugger, and performance analysis tools.

DS-5 v5.4 brings improved support for the ARM Neon general-purpose single-instruction multiple-data (SIMD) engine, which is available on most platforms based on the ARM Cortex-A8 and Cortex-A9 processors. Neon technology accelerates multimedia and signal processing algorithms such as video decoding, graphics, audio, and gaming.

DS-5 speeds up the development of Linux drivers and codecs that use Neon by providing an updated GNU Compiler (GCC v4.5.1) with Neon-specific performance improvements.

Neon registers views in the DS-5 debugger to view and modify the status of the Neon unit. These views are available during either kernel-space or user-space development. Synchronized source code and disassembly views enable users to debug compiler-generated Neon code even at high levels of optimization.

DS-5 v5.4 is available now for Windows and Linux host platforms. It can be evaluated for a month free of charge by downloading it from www.arm.com/ds5.
