The Advanced Design System 2001 (ADS 2001) EDA software for communications products in-cludes RF IC design capabilities. Developed by Agilent Technologies Inc., this version of the software advances usability and simulation performance for RF and microwave designs of all types. Additionally, it features ad-vanced integration into design flows for more precise modeling of today's complex RF IC designs.

The software accommodates greater levels of integration by accurately simulating larger, more complex ICs under real-world conditions. Advanced simulators analyze high-frequency effects on wireless and wireline IC designs. Also, the software targets microwave engineers designing monolithic microwave ICs (MMICs) and wireless equipment manufacturers designing next-generation communications products. It suits RF IC designers focused on larger, more complex integrated designs, such as wireless chip sets, as well.

The ADS 2001 can be integrated into the Cadence design platform framework, enabling RF IC designers to use best-in-class RF simulators. Design kits are provided by major RF IC foundries, including AMS, Anadigics, Atmel, IBM, Maxim, Philips, RF Micro Devices, STMicroelectronics, TriQuint, TSMC, and UMC. The ADS 2001 now simulates designs with thousands of active devices. It features convergence for large and strongly nonlinear designs. And, simulation times have been reduced by up to a factor of 15.

An electronic lab notebook can be used to create Web pages for design documentation. Incorporated wireless design libraries include 5-GHz WLAN (802.11a and HIPERLAN/2) and 2.5G and 3G standards, such as EDGE, cdma2000, 3GPP FDD and TDD W-CDMA, and CDMA 1xEV. The software is designed to run on Unix systems and on PCs using Windows 98/2000/NT 4.0.

Available now, pricing for the ADS 2001 starts at $8080.
