By using an amorphous structure, these new choke coils are said to deliver magnetic and mechanical features far superior to those found in conventional metallic structures. The amorphous choke coils come in cut core, toroidal and sealed packages and electrically are rated for up to 60A, depending on the mode. Other features of the coils include an operating temperature range of -25°C to +130°C and an operating frequency range of 20 to 500 kHz. Serving to help designers create smaller products with higher end performance, the amorphous choke coils come in eight different series and are targeted for use in switching power supplies, dc/dc converters, normal mode and active filters, and UPSs. Price ranges from $2 to $3 each, depending on values, and delivery time is 13 weeks.
