Lower ESR values, no polarity for simpler installation, and a smaller case size and lower profile than aluminum electrolytics and tantalum capacitors with similar capacitance values and rated voltages are all advantages claimed for the CE Series of nickel-based multilayer ceramic chip capacitors. Because of their lower equivalent series resistance, the CE Series caps offer lower power loss and heat generation. Impedances are also lower at higher frequencies than for electrolytics or tantalums. The capacitors are available in values from 0.1 µF to 100 µF. When used in bypass or smoothing circuits, the CE Series caps are said to outperform other types with capacitance values two to 20 times higher. The use of nickel-based compounds for internal and external electrodes provides minimal migration and lower cost.
