Resonant Transformers Improve Cooling Via Extended Ferrites

Oct. 15, 2010
Addressing size constraints and cooling concerns of flat-panel TV makers, Payton’s standard resonant transformers measure less than 8 mm in height for natural cooling.

Addressing size constraints and cooling concerns of flat-panel TV makers, Payton’s standard resonant transformers measure less than 8 mm in height for natural cooling. A 200W transformer measuring 55 mm x 40 mm x 8 mm offers resonant half-bridge operation. The company can also design low-profile transformers for many switchmode topologies with operating frequencies over 200 kHz. Input voltage is 400V with over 3-kVrms isolation. Total power losses are under 3.8W with a 40°C temperature rise with no additional cooling and efficiency is in the 98% range. PAYTON AMERICA INC., Deerfield Beach FL. (954) 428-3326.
