250-W Open-Frame Power Supplies Eye Medical Apps

The MBC250 series of open-frame power supplies from Power-One offer the features suitable for body-floating (BF) applications within the medical industry. The 250-W ac-dc supplies, housed in 3- by 5-in. packages and with a low 1U height, deliver 90% efficiency at 230 V ac. They use a universal 90- to 264-V ac input range with active power factor correction. Available single outputs include 12, 24 or 48 V. Approval to Means of Patient Protection (MOPP) will lead these supplies into BF applications—equipment that may come in direct contact with the patient (e.g., blood-pressure monitors, ultrasound equipment). They can also be used in other high-isolation or low-leakage apps.
