These non-isolated dc/dc converters give embedded application designers a step-down switching functionality at efficiencies greater than 94%. Based on the industry standard footprint of a 7805 three-pin regulator, the NGA converters are said to save space and reduce power consumption in embedded computing applications. The dc/dc converters can operate between -40°C and +85°C without derating, making them effective for embedded applications in industrial and other challenging environments. They come with output options of 1.8 to 3.3 Vdc and 5.0 Vdc and can accommodate a wide input voltage range of between 4.75V and 28V at full 2A output current. Built-in functionality includes short-circuit protection and a pin for remote on/off operation. Device dimensions: 21 x 21 x 5 mm. The NGA converters are also said to have fast transient response ratings, use a switching frequency of about 300 kHz, and to have a thermally stable construction. In addition, a low typical standby current of 100 mA helps to further minimize power consumption. Pricing is $10 each in OEM quantities. C&D TECHNOLOGIES INC., Tucson, AZ. (520) 295-4300.
