Raising the current bar for half-brick dc/dc converters, the Polaris 2 single-output, 1.2V-to-1.8V base-plate and open-frame converters achieve a current density of 46A per cubic inch, a total output of 120A, without de-rating at normal operating conditions. Input voltage ranges from 36V to 75V, 48V nominal. The converter family also includes units that deliver 2.5V at 100A, 3.3V at 80A, and 5V at 55A. The isolated, fixed-frequency converters rely on synchronous rectification to achieve efficiencies up to 92% and operate without de-rating, assuming 300 LFM of airflow at 50°C. All members of the family meet an input-voltage-transient requirement of 100V for 100 ms and insulation requirements for EN60950. Price starts at $99 each/1,000. CHEROKEE INTERNATIONAL, Tustin, CA.
