Alternatively dubbed a dc transformer or bus-converter module, the BusQor quarter-brick dc/dc converter can deliver up to 20A at 12V for a total output of 240W without the aid of a heatsink. The module's synchronous rectification and a patented topology are said to be responsible for an efficiency of 96.5% at full load. Input voltage ranges from 42V to 53V (48V nominal) and output is 12V unregulated with 2 kVdc input-to-output isolation. Other features of the quarter-brick converter include on/off control, input under-voltage lockout, output over-voltage shutdown, short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown. The dc/dc converter can be used where a loosely regulated 12V intermediate bus to power downstream non-isolated, point-of-load regulators is required. In OEM quantities, BusQors cost less than $60 each. SYNQOR INC., Hudson, MA. (888) 567-9596.
