Switching Regulators Offer High Efficiencies Even At Low Loads

Oct. 8, 2008
The 78SR Series 2A switching regulators deliver high operating efficiency in applications requiring 3.3V or 5V outputs at up to 2A, from 8V to 32V inputs. For example, at a nominal 12V input, full-load efficiencies approach 96% for 5V models and 93%

The 78SR Series 2A switching regulators deliver high operating efficiency in applications requiring 3.3V or 5V outputs at up to 2A, from 8V to 32V inputs. For example, at a nominal 12V input, full-load efficiencies approach 96% for 5V models and 93% for 3.3V models. Even at low load currents, when efficiency typically drops, the 78SR Series 2A maintains high efficiencies. For a 12V input and 0.5A (25%) load, the 3.3V regulator offers 87% efficiency and the 5V regulator 90%. Output accuracy is ±2%, and line and load regulation are ±0.35% and ±0.25%, respectively. Features include a 210-kHz switching frequency, optimized low-loss layout, and an open-frame construction. This allows for full-load operation from 9V, 12V, or 24V supplies at ambient temperatures to 70°C without heatsinks, forced-air cooling, or temperature derating. Lead times are from stock to 12 weeks. Contact the company for prices. Free sample/evaluation units are available to qualified OEMs from stock. MURATA POWER SOLUTIONS, Mansfield, MA. (508) 339-3000.
