In eight-lead, 2 mm x 3 mm DFN packages, the LTC3528/B, 1-MHz, current mode, synchronous boost dc/dc converters provide output-disconnect and soft start capabilities. Their 1A switches deliver output voltages up to 5.25V from an input-voltage range of 0.7V and up to 200 mA of continuous output current at 3.3V operating from a single alkaline cell or 400 mA from dual alkaline cells. Synchronous rectification enables efficiencies of up to 94%, while burst-mode operation lowers quiescent current to 12 µA in the LTC3528. For low-noise applications, a version is available with burst bode disabled. This version also runs in continuous mode at all current levels, slightly reducing light-load efficiency. Pricing starts at $1.95 each/1,000. LINEAR TECHNOLOGY CORP., Milpitas, CA. (800) 454-6327.
