CUI has added a 2-W series to its second generation of isolated dc-dc converter family, designed to deliver improved efficiency, isolation, and thermal performance compared to previous versions.

The unregulated PDS2-M series is packaged in the same compact eight-pin surface-mount (SMT) package as the existing 1-W PDS family, measuring 12.7 by 11.2 by 7.25 mm. The modules feature 1.5-kV dc I/O isolation and anti-static protection up to 8 kV dc.

The PDS2-M series is designed with an ultra-wide operating temperature range of –40°C to 105°C, offering a reliable solution for converting and/or isolating dc rails in industrial, telecom, security, and machine control applications.

The series provides nominal inputs of 5, 12, 15, and 24 V dc and outputs of 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15, and 24 V dc. The dc-dc converters are highly efficient compared to other products in their class, delivering typical efficiencies up to 86%.

To further enhance performance across the entire load curve, the modules have been designed to greatly reduce power draw under light and no load conditions.
