6-A, 42-V Synchronous Step-Down Keeps Quiescent Current Under 3 µA

Feb. 7, 2014
Internal high-efficiency switches deliver up to 6 A of continuous output current to voltages as low as 0.97 V in Linear Technology’s new 2-V synchronous step-down switching regulator.

Internal high-efficiency switches deliver up to 6 A of continuous output current to voltages as low as 0.97 V in Linear Technology’s new 2-V synchronous step-down switching regulator. Synchronous rectification produces efficiencies as high as 95%, while burst-mode operation keeps quiescent current under 3 µA in no-load standby conditions and output ripple below 10 mV p-p. The LT8612’s 3.4- to 42-V input voltage range suits it for automotive “always-on” systems and industrial applications. In addition, a minimum dropout voltage of 250 mV at 3 A under all conditions will gear it toward automotive cold-crank applications. Minimum on-time of 40 ns enables 2-MHz constant frequency switching from a 16-V input to a 1.5-V output. The device’s current-mode topology enhances transient response and loop stability. The LT8612 comes housed in a 3- by 6-mm, 28-lead QFN.
