Battery Charger IC Integrates Step-Down Controllers

May 11, 2010
To save space and reduce component count, the MAX17085B integrates a multi-chemistry battery charger with dual Quick-PWM step-down controllers.

To save space and reduce component count, the MAX17085B integrates a multi-chemistry battery charger with dual Quick-PWM step-down controllers. The battery charger's switching frequency is up to 1.2 MHz, allowing the use of smaller inductors. Charge-voltage setting is adjustable and accurate to ±0.4% and the charge current is also adjustable by an analog or PWM input. Internal 5V/100-mA and 3.3V/50-mA LDOs generate always-on power supplies. Other features include over-voltage, under-voltage, thermal, and other fault-protection features. Available in a 40-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm TQFN package with an exposed pad, price starts at $2.45 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
