With a compact, 16.55 x 5.95-mm footprint and having a 3.3V input and 12V or 15V output, the NKA03 series dc/dc converters are designed to save space and reduce the component count for low-voltage industrial distributed power applications requiring dual dc outputs from a single dc rail. The dual-output converters are supplied in a subminiature SIP package with an industry-standard pin-out and are said to achieve maximum design flexibility by allowing any distribution of the load across the outputs as long as the total does not exceed 1W. Galvanic isolation between input and output of 3 kVdc ensures minimum switching noise. The NKA03 converters reduce component count by delivering full load performance from -40°C to 85°C without using a heatsink or other external cooling. Typical line regulation for the devices is rated at 1%, while typical ripple and noise current ratings are 30 mAP-P. Supplied in an encapsulated, UL 94V-0-compliant package, the products use a toroidal magnetic construction to minimize external fields, making them effective for applications with high component densities. And an internal SMT construction using multilayer ceramic capacitors rather than electrolytic or tantalum alternatives contributes to a long operating life: MTTF is rated at up to 1.6 million hr. NKA dc/dc converters cost under $5 each in OEM quantities. C&D TECHNOLOGIES INC., Raleigh, N.C. (919) 571-9405.
