A highly integrated hot-swap power controller, called the TPS2345, is claimed to be the first in the market to comply with the High Availability System Model of the CompactPCI Hot Swap Specification, PICMG 2.1 for the PCI bus. The new device is designed to bring true high-availability operation to next-generation PCI products in the telecomm, Internet, instrumentation, and networking markets while speeding development, cutting costs, reducing space requirements, and improving reliability. Also, a low, 20-mV sense voltage limit allows the use of low value sense resistors, minimizing insertion loss. The TPS2345 comes in a 24-pin TSSOP package and is available now. Pricing for the device is $4.50 each/1,000. An evaluation module is also available. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924, ext. 4500.
