Promising high output currents and smaller power supplies, the MAX5065 and MAX5067 dual-phase, dc/dc controllers can operate in parallel and include an internal voltage regulator that allows operation from a 5V, 12V, or 24V supply. Output voltage is externally adjustable from 0.6V to 3.3V for the MAX5065 and 0.8V to 3.3V for the MAX5067. Both devices can deliver up to 60A of output current via integrated 4A MOSFET drivers and higher outputs when configured in parallel. They include an average-current-mode control that renders a ±5% current-limit and current-sharing accuracy, which reportedly allows the use of small inductors and small, or fewer, external MOSFETs. Other features include an internal-oscillator (pin selectable at 250 kHz or 500 kHz), external-frequency synchronization, phase-shifted clock outputs, true differential remote-output voltage sensing, and thermal shutdown. The MAX5067 also provides over-voltage protection, a power-good output, and a phase-failure detector output flag. Prices start at $2.10 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
