Efficient PMICs Extend Battery Life

The AAT2782 and AAT2783 power management ICs (PMICs) for portable applications combine two step-down converters with a low-Vin LDO to provide traditional power-management functions and power noise-sensitive circuits without compromising a power efficiency up to 80%. Both operate off a 2.7V to 5.5V input range and provide three independently-regulated outputs. The two step-down converters on the AAT2782 deliver 1,200 mA and 600 mA respectively. On the AAT2783 the converters supply 1,000 mA and 400 mA. Both devices rely on a 1.3-MHz switching frequency to support the use of small external filters. The LDOs on both devices operate off a 1.7V input and deliver up to 400 mA with a -80 dB PSRR and a 65 µVrms output noise with an optional bypass capacitor. The LDO’s output voltage is factory set at 1.2V. Total quiescent current is 170 µA for the AAT2782 and 135 µA for the AAT2783 and both devices feature 200-µs internal soft start and over-temperature protection. Available in lead-free, 16-pin TDFN packages, prices for either the AAT2782 or AAT2783 is $1.93 each/1,000. ANALOGIC TECHNOLOGIES INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 737-4600.
