Gate Driver Eases Ballast, SMPS And Half-Bridge Inverter Apps

Oct. 8, 2008
Crowned as the industry's only HVIC with an external pin for dead-time control, the FAN7387 offers a design-flexible and low-power solution for ballast, SMPS, and half-bridge inverter designs via its self-oscillating, high-voltage gate driver.

Crowned as the industry's only HVIC with an external pin for dead-time control, the FAN7387 offers a design-flexible and low-power solution for ballast, SMPS, and half-bridge inverter designs via its self-oscillating, high-voltage gate driver. Employing a unique noise-canceling technique, it features high-side driver operation with negative Vs swings up to -9.8V. This feature reportedly protects the IC from negative noise and makes it more immune to noise without using an additional diode. Other features include a quiescent current of 220 µA, lead-free terminals, and characterization for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the lead-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. Price is $1.20 each/100. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA. (800) 341-0392.
