A family of high-voltage hot-swap power controllers--MIC2589/2595/ 2588/2594--is aimed at telecom, networking and datacom line-card applications. The controllers operate over a voltage range of -19V to -80V with 100V surge protection and permit safe insertion/removal of line cards from live -48V backplanes. They control an external N-channel MOSFET to provide inrush-current limiting and overcurrent protection using a minimum of external components. Each provides separate "Power-is-Good" control inputs for multiple dc/dc power converters. The outputs can be time staggered by programming an external capacitor. The MIC2589 offers adjustable input undervoltage lockout and overvoltage protection while the MIC2595 offers adjustable input undervoltage hysteresis or on-off threshold control. Both types are housed in 14-pin SOIC packages. The MIC2588/2594 are reduced feature-set versions in 8-pin SOIC packages. Pricing for the MIC2589 and 2595 is $2.38 each/10,000.
