The ISL85xx family of 2A, FET step-down dc/dc switching regulators support a wide input-voltage range and handle transient spikes up to 100V for 400 ms. The ISL8560 supports an input voltage range of 9V to 60V with programmable output voltages from 1.21V to 55V, while the ISL8540 has an input voltage range of 9V to 40V with a programmable output voltage range of 1.21V to 35V. Both devices provide separate EN and power good for output sequencing; an adjustable switching frequency and external frequency synchronization from 100 kHz to 600 kHz; over-temperature, under-voltage, pulse-by-pulse over-current, hiccup-mode, and short-circuit protections; a BOOT diode; and high-side power DMOS transistors. Other features include a 1.21V internal reference that is accurate to ±1% over an industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Available now, the ISL8540 comes in a 20-lead HTSSOP and the ISL8560 in a 20-lead, 6mm x 6 mm lead-free QFN. Prices are $2.79 and $2.97 each/1,000, respectively. INTERSIL CORP., Milpitas, CA.
