The LTC4007 standalone, Li-ion battery pack charger is capable of a 4A output with operating efficiencies up to 96%. The device drives external MOSFETs synchronously to achieve this level of efficiency. It is suitable for charging three- or four-cell battery packs from input voltages ranging from 6V to 28V. All functions for charging control, termination, temperature monitoring, battery conditioning, and status and fault reporting are on-chip. Other features include a switching frequency of 300 kHz, charging voltage accuracy of 0.8%, thermistor input, programmable charge current with 5% accuracy, ac adapter current limiting, and a unique no-audible noise architecture that allows the use of ceramic capacitors on the input and output.
