Linear Regulator Features Current/Temperature Monitor Outputs

June 27, 2013
1.5 A, 40 V linear regulator boasts key usability, monitoring and protection features.

Linear Technology’s LT3081 is a rugged 1.5 A wide input voltage range linear regulator with key usability, monitoring and protection features. With it’s extended safe operating area the linear regulator is suited for high input-to-output voltage and high output current applications where older regulators limit the output. The linear regulator uses a current source reference for single resistor output voltage settings and output adjustability down to 0. This regulator architecture, combined with low millivolt regulation, enables multiple ICs to be paralleled for heat spreading and higher output current. With an input voltage range from 1.2 V to 40 V, the regulator achieves under 2 mV independent of output voltage and fits well in applications requiring multiple rails. Output voltage is programmable with a single resistor from 0 V to 38.5 V with a 1.2 V dropout. The LT3081 linear regulator is offered in a variety of thermally enhanced SMT compatible packages, including low profile 12-lead DFN, 16-lead thermally enhanced TSSOP, 7-lead DD-Pak and 7-lead TO-220 power package for vertical mounting to heat sinks. E & I grades, H grade and MP grade are offered with prices starting at $2.60 each/1,000 for the E grade.
