Operating with a quiescent current of 2 µA and an input-voltage up to 13.2V, the 250-mA MCP1702 low dropout regulator (LDO) eyes applications requiring long battery run times and a high tolerance for input-voltage variations. These include smoke detectors, fire alarms, and commercial/residential thermostats. The device also features an array of device- and circuit-protection capabilities such as over-current protection and thermal shutdown. Output voltage regulation is kept in line via a ±2% over-temperature accuracy. The device is available in 3-pin SOT-89, SOT-23, and TO-92 packages priced at $0.37 each/10,000.
