Module Solves Difficult Power Supply Challenges

Feb. 9, 2010
The ISL8200M power module suits a wide range of point-of-load (POL) power requirements in the computing, telecom, networking infrastructure, and industrial markets
The ISL8200M power module suits a wide range of point-of-load (POL) power requirements in the computing, telecom, networking infrastructure, and industrial markets. The device allegedly solves the five most demanding challenges to power-supply design: ease of use, risk levels, time to market, size, and inventory concerns. The 10A POL regulator in a surface-mount QFN package integrates a PWM controller, power MOSFETs, power inductor, and discrete components. It accepts input voltages from 3V to 20V and provides outputs from 0.6V to 6V. A current-sharing architecture allows paralleling up to six modules for a total output of 60A. Other features include remote voltage sensing, a programmable and synchronizable switching frequency, an enable pin, and a power-good indicator. Pricing for the ISL8200MIRZ starts at $15.86 each/1,000. INTERSIL CORP., Milpitas, CA. (888) 352-6832.
