OVP Device Integrates USB And Charger Detection

March 11, 2010
the FAN3988 over-voltage protection (OVP) device packs USB/charger-detection capabilities and allows users to select an external P-channel MOSFET with the specific on-resistance and current capability required by their application

Groomed for portable designs, the FAN3988 over-voltage protection (OVP) device packs USB/charger-detection capabilities and allows users to select an external P-channel MOSFET with the specific on-resistance and current capability required by their application. Automatic detection allows the device to sense the presence of a USB charger by continuously monitoring the D+ and D- lines for a shorted condition. The device also monitors the VBUS for an over- or under-voltage condition. The FAN3988 comes in a six-lead MicroPak MLP, priced at $0.24 each/1,000. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA.
