PMIC Governs LCD HDTV Panels

March 8, 2010
The MAX17122 power manager IC (PMIC) integrates three, high-efficiency regulators with fixed-frequency operation, allowing the use of small inductors and capacitors

The MAX17122 power manager IC (PMIC) integrates three, high-efficiency regulators with fixed-frequency operation, allowing the use of small inductors and capacitors. This results in a compact and cost-competitive solution for the power requirements of thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD HDTV panels. The device operates from an 8V to 16.5V input voltages and is optimized for applications running directly from 12V regulated supplies. It also integrates a 22V internal-switch step-down regulator for digital logic, 16.5V internal-switch step-up regulator to power the TFT source drivers, and a temperature-compensated 36V internal-switch boost-buck regulator producing a negative output that varies according to the temperature sensed by an external NTC thermistor. Available in a 40-pin TQFN measuring 6 mm x 6 mm with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, price starts at $1.10 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
