In addition to 18 KB of EEPROM, the MAX17106 power-management IC (PMIC) integrates all necessary components for powering LCD gate drivers, source drivers, and a VCOM backplane. These include two boost regulators, an LDO, a programmable VCOM calibrator with buffer, three high-speed op amps, and a high-voltage level-shifting scan driver. One boost regulator has a 1.2-MHz switching frequency and integrates a power MOSFET. It delivers output voltages up to 14V from a 2.4V to 5.5V input while achieving better than 85% efficiency. A second boost regulator generates the GON voltage and the LDO supplies a 300-mA load. The op amps drive the VCOM backplane and feature a 150-mA short-circuit current with a 45 V/µs slew rate. The level-shifting scan driver swings from -22V to +38V and can drive capacitive loads. Available in a 56-pin, TQFN package measuring 7 mm x 7 mm with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, price starts at $1.65 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
