Squeezing four independent voltage outputs into a 48-pin, 6 mm x 6 mm TQFN package, the MAX17019 quad-output controller promises to save both space and costs in automotive applications. Operating with input voltages up to 38V, the device includes a main-stage step-down controller, 3 Ap-p step-down regulator, 5 Ap-p step-down regulator, and a 2A source/sink linear regulator. Its step-down converters use a peak-current-mode, fixed-frequency control scheme to provide a reportedly easy-to-implement architecture that does not sacrifice transient response. This architecture also supports peak-current-limit protection and pulse-skipping operation to maintain high efficiency under light-load conditions. Prices start at $5.50 each/1,000.
