Step-Down Regulators Pack High Power In Small Packages

March 23, 2011
Dubbed the market’s smallest, most efficient step-down regulators integrating NexFET technology, the 14V/25A TPS56221 synchronous SWIFT switcher achieves a power density greater than 200 W/in.3.

Dubbed the market’s smallest, most efficient step-down regulators integrating NexFET technology, the 14V/25A TPS56221 synchronous SWIFT switcher achieves a power density greater than 200 W/in.3. It exhibits 90+% efficiency at high loads from a 12V input to a 1.3V/25A output using a 500-kHz switching frequency. Its partner, the TPS56121 14V/15A synchronous switcher is 3% more efficient at 5V input to 1.2V output. Both come in 5 mm x 6 mm QFN packages. Prices for the TPS56221 and TPS56121 are $5.25 and $4.35 each/1,000, respectively. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
