The LTC3430 constant-frequency, step-down switching regulator operates with an input voltage range from 5.5V to 60V and delivers a continuous output current up to 2.75A at an output voltage as low as 1.25V. Peak current is 3A. To minimize the number of external components, the device switches at a constant rate of 200 kHz. A pin allows synchronization from 228 kHz to 700 kHz with a logic-level input. The regulator employs what is said to be a new high-voltage process that enables high efficiency over a wide input voltage range. Its current-mode topology promises a fast transient response and solid loop stability. Other features include a high efficiency, 3A 100 m? switch, patented circuitry that maintains peak switch current over the entire duty cycle range, and a current draw of 2.5 mA during operation and 25 µA in shutdown mode. Pricing starts at $4.95 each/1,000. More details on the switching regulator are available from LINEAR TECHNOLOGY CORP., Milpitas, CA. (800) 454-6327.
