The TPS65050 family of power-management devices squeeze six channels into single, 32-pin 4 mm x 4 mm leadless QFN packages, making them contenders for use in a wide range of single-cell, lithium-powered portables. The devices achieve efficiencies up to 95% across a range of point-of-load currents up to 1A. They integrate two 2.25-MHz step-down converters to support core, peripheral, I/O, or memory voltages. Both converters, operating with input voltages from 2.5V to 6V, work in power-save mode at light-load currents or in shutdown mode when power consumption is less than 1 µA. The chips also integrate two 400-mA low dropout (LDO) voltage regulators and two 200-mA LDOs. The LDOs support an input voltage between 1.5 V and 6.5 V, which allows each to operate from one of the internal converters or from the battery. Other features include fixed or adjustable output voltages, a fixed 2.25-MHz operating frequency, 180° out-of-phase operations, 100% duty cycle, and a typical quiescent current of 32 µA. Pricing starts at $2.75 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
