Mini IR Touch Probe Designed For Micromachining Apps

Hexagon Metrology claims that its m&h IRP40.50 infrared touch probe is the smallest self-contained wireless computer-numerical-control (CNC) probe, measuring 25 mm in diameter and 44.2 mm in length without shank and stylus.

Hexagon Metrology claims that its m&h IRP40.50 infrared touch probe is the smallest self-contained wireless computer-numerical-control (CNC) probe, measuring 25 mm in diameter and 44.2 mm in length without shank and stylus. With the shank and stylus, it’s slightly larger than a standard USB stick. The probe, with a probing force of 0.7N (XY), is suited for inspection in tight spaces, specifically miniature machining centers. It eliminates the concern of measuring small parts with little room in the Z-axis direction and tool magazine; in fact, it leaves enough room without danger of collision. Stylus threading is M2, but allows for fast probe cycles at speeds up to 2000 mm/min. The probe works with PC-DMIS NC-Gage v2.1 software to simplify CNC probe operations. Also, newly developed electronics pushes continuous run time to 400 hours. Applications include micro-manufacturing in the firearms, medical, dental, additive manufacturing, and electronics industries.
