Among the significant new features added to the 8650A series of universal power meters are histograms, CDF/CCDF, and stripchart capabilities. The features give the instruments statistical power-analysis capability for evaluating communications system design and performance. The power meters are available in single- and dual-channel configurations and have the ability to measure both the peak and average power of TDMA, GSM, and CDMA signals. They also have the ability to measure CW and pulse modulated signals with NIST-traceable accuracy from 10 MHz to 40 GHz over a -70 to +47 dBm range. The new measurement features join crest factor, standard deviation, and mean power to provide statistical analysis modes for evaluating modulated signals over a selected time interval. The 8651A single-channel model costs $3310 and the dual-channel 8652A, $4870.
