Vital Sign Monitoring from Inside a Mattress

April 10, 2023
Analog Devices’ vital signs monitoring solutions leverage integrated and discrete sensor and signal-conditioning technology for portable, wearable, and bedside monitoring systems.

Analog Devices' vital signs monitoring portfolio includes optical sensors, bioelectric analog front ends, bioimpedance engines, low-power motion sensors, and high-precision temperature sensors. Integrated optical modules or sensor interfaces can enable photoplethysmography (PPG) measurement for optical heart rate, heart-rate variability, and pulse oximetry (SpO2), for example. In addition, their precise and low-power analog front ends enable bioelectric measurement for electrocardiogram (ECG), EMG, EEG, and similar applications.

ADI’s non-contact vital signs monitoring (NCVSM) system enables accurate and robust vital signs monitoring in a hospital or care-facility bed. The ADXL355 accelerometer is placed within the mattress. While a person sleeps on the bed, the NCVSM algorithm processes the data to determine the heart rate, heart-rate variability, and respiration rate.
