14-Bit ADC Achieves 250 MIPS With Little Power

Debuting as the first in a unique class of ADCs, the 14-bit ADS4149 consumes 30% less power than comparable devices while providing a bandwidth from dc to 550 MHz and delivering up to 250 MIPS. It consumes as little as 275 mW per channel at 250 Msamples/s and specifies a 72.5-dB SNR with a 100-MHz input frequency. Dynamic power scaling reduces power consumption to 215 mW at 160 Msamples/s. Options include a buffered analog input that provides constant input impedance across time and frequency and eliminates sample-and-hold kickback and a 1- to 6-dB programmable gain option allows users to trade off between SNR and SFDR with lower input voltage swings.
