Joining the MCP3551/MCP3553 family of 22-bit, delta-sigma a/d converters, the MCP3550 embarks as one of the lowest power and smallest such devices with a greater than 16-bit resolution. Available in an 8-pin MSOP measuring 3.1 mm x 3.1 mm x 1.18 mm, the converter consumes a typical operating current 120 µA and rejects noise in excess of 120 dB found on 50- or 60-Hz ac lines. Specs include an integral nonlinearity of ± 2 ppm typical, power consumption of 0.6 mW maximum at 5V, and an output noise as low as 2.5 µVRMS. Available in 8-pin SOIC and MSOP packages, prices are $3.20 and $3.23 each/10,000, respectively. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ. (888) 628-6247.
