Dubbed the market’s first car audio amplifier with digital input, the TDA7801 addresses the trend towards a fully digital head unit and sound systems, delivering numerous advantages over systems based on analog inputs and d/a converters. According to the company, these advantages include higher sound quality, better noise immunity, simpler system design, and greater system reliability. The device specifies a SNR from around 90 dB to more than 105 dB and delivers intrinsically pop-free operation. Additionally, it reduces the number of active and passive components, simplifying system design and reducing cost. Samples of ST’s TDA7801 are available now, with volume production set for the second quarter of 2009. Pricing is $6 each/1,000. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
