The 16-bit AD7142 capacitance-to-digital converter (CDC) relies on a capacitance-sensor core to provide error-free performance in low-power mobile applications. With 14 inputs paired with adaptive threshold and sensitivity algorithms, the chip is programmable for a variety of sensor configurations including finger-driven scroll bars, eight-way position sensors, and scroll wheels. A unique automatic environmental-compensation feature performs calibration digitally that is transparent to the user. Working from a 2.7V to 3.3V supply, specs include an operating current of less than 1 mA, shutdown current below 2 µA, and a choice of SPI or I2C interfaces. In a 5 mm x 5 mm LFCSP, volume pricing is $1.09 each. ANALOG DEVICES INC.,Norwood, MA. (800) 262-5643.
