Emerging as the market’s smallest single-chip camera sensor for mobile applications, the VD6725 0.2" optical-format imaging sensor provides an active pixel array of 1600 x 1200 (UXGA), image processing, and camera control functions on a single chip. Via its 1.75-micron pixel design, the device fits in phone-camera modules smaller than 6 mm x 6 mm x 3.8 mm. It provides end-users with a wide range of special effects including flipped and mirror-reversed images and pure black-and-white conversion for whiteboard content capture, document extraction, and barcode reading. Engineering samples and demo-kits are available now with volume production available at the end of June. In two package options, as a chip-on-board die or in a TSV wafer-level package, single-unit pricing is in the $2 range. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
