The company's latest MOSFET families address heat and power concerns in battery-powered products. The uPA273xUT1A family is designed for use in li-ion battery protection circuits found in notebook PCs. They prevent heat generation and explosions that may result from battery over current. The uPA272xUT1A family powers CPUs and chipsets in notebooks, desktop PCs, and servers, and is designed for use in dc/dc converters, or point-of-load converters. Devices in both families are housed in proprietary eight-pin HVSON packages that fit into an industry-standard SOP8 footprint. Other features include on-resistances ranging from 2.0 mW to 7.7 milliohms (uPA272xUT1A) and from 2.6 to 3.1 milliohms (uPA273xUT1A) and a power consumption of 4.6W. Samples of both families are available now with volume scheduled to begin in May. NEC ELECTRONICS AMERICA INC., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 366-9782.
