Specifying what may be the industry’s highest common-mode rejection (CMR) of 30 kV/µs at 1 kV, the ACPL-4800 optocoupler drives the intelligent power modules (IPMs) and IGBTs common to industrial motor-control equipment. The device also reports a 50-mA output current capability at up to 5 Mb/s and guaranteed performance over a temperature range from -40°C to +100°C. It relies on a totem-pole output with positive input/output logic to eliminate pull-up resistors or other additional circuitry when interfacing to a positive-input IPM. Other features include a wide operating-voltage range from 5V to 20V, 350-ns propagation delay, and a 250-ns pulse-width distortion with high common-mode transient immunity. Pending safety-standard approvals include CSA File CA88324 (Notice #5) and IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-2. Available in 8-pin, gull-wing SMT DIP, lead-free through-hole DIP, and lead-free gull-wing SMT packages, price is $1.50 each/1,000. AVAGO TECHNOLOGIES, Santa Clara, CA. (800) 235-0312.
