Power Switches Enhance USB Port Protection

July 14, 2011
Ensuring fast latchoff in the event of over-current detection, the AP2401 and AP2411 single channel power switches raise USB port protection levels.

Ensuring fast latchoff in the event of over-current detection, the AP2401 and AP2411 single channel power switches raise USB port protection levels.  The 2A, high-side power switches provide a choice of active low enable and active high enable operation and are optimized for self-powered and bus-powered USB 2.0 and 3.0 and other 3V to 5V hot-swap consumer designs. The devices specify a short circuit response time of 2 µs and on-resistance is 70 mΩ under 2A continuous operation. Price for the AP2401 or AP2411 is $0.21 each/1,000.  DIODES INC., Dallas, TX.
