Offering a quiet alternative to pulsed topologies, the ZXLD1100 and ZXLD1101 white LED drivers, a.k.a. inductive boost converters, provide an optional analog dimming mode. The devices can drive up to eight LEDs connected in series from a single li-ion cell, and they support color-LCD backlighting. Both integrate a NDMOS switch and peak-current sense resistor, and deliver maximum output voltages up to 28V. Typical quiescent current is 60 µA, and a shutdown function reduces current to less than 500 nA in the off state. Other features include an input voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5V, a typical efficiency of 85%, and an adjustable output current up to 50 mA. Prices for the ZXLD1100 and ZXLD1101 are $0.56 and $0.48 each/10,000, respectively. ZETEX INC., Hauppauge, NY. (631) 360-2222.
