Over the years, auto manufacturers have continued to add more electrical and electronic equipment to their vehicles. However, these new accessories have stretched most 12-volt vehicle electrical systems to their limit. The industry is responding by developing a new, improved electrical system using 48-volt batteries, which are initially being incorporated into “mild hybrid” electrical vehicles, or MHEVs.
