Freescale Semiconductor is partnering with Comtech Group to develop automotive electronic module subsystems. The firms plan to expand the partnership to include digital consumer electronics products.
Comtech provides customized design solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) in China. Last year it began shipping technology to enable the installation of MP3/iPod music systems in new and existing vehicles.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China sold 8.8 million vehicles in 2007, 1.5 million more than in 2006, and is now the world’s second largest vehicle market. Comtech and Freescale expect their collaboration to generate “meaningful results” by the second half of 2008.
