Low-Dropout Linear Regulators Deliver Up To 1 A

A family of low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators operates from an input voltage from 1.425 V to 3.6 V and delivers up to 1 A (MAX15027/MAX15028) or 500 mA (MAX15029/MAX15030) of output current. In addition, the MAX15028/MAX15030 feature a bias input that allows the devices to be powered from an independent supply, making them suitable for always-on power supplies in automotive applications. The bias input allows the regulator's input to reduce current to just 2 µA (maximum) during shutdown. These LDO regulators can dissipate up to 1.9 W at +70°C and is suited for a wide array of applications, including networking, storage, server, and telecom equipment. All of them offer ±2% accuracy over line, load, and temperature, as well as a dropout voltage as low as 75 mV (MAX15027/MAX15028) or 40 mV (MAX15029/MAX15030) under a full load. Other features include a capacitor-adjustable soft-start input, an enable input, and an adjustable feedback input to set the output voltage from 0.5 V to 3.3 V. These regulators are offered in a small, 3 mm x 3 mm, thermally enhanced, 10-pin TDFN package and are fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. Prices start at $0.90 each in lots of 1000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
