Tailored for automotive audio systems, the µPD35502 system on chip (SoC) reportedly increases the processing of music data to realize playback of multiple songs, multiple sources, and multiple destinations, while providing the ability to play different songs in the front and rear seat. For system development, a complete software package including compressed audio decoding software for standards such as MP3, WMA and AAC, as well as other necessary system software is on tap in production-ready form. The SoC also enables field upgrades of system characteristics such as adding HMI features, updated versions of existing audio codecs, and adding unique codecs as they become available. Other integrated features include USB/SD-card interfaces, several I2S channels, an option for supporting Bluetooth wireless technology, and multi-source decoding. The uPD35502 is currently available for sampling. For more details, call NEC ELECTRONICS AMERICA INC., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 366-9782.
