Claiming to reduce part counts and power dissipation, the CopperWing central-office ADSL chipset integrates eight channels into two chips: the STLC60845 data pump and the STLC60844 analog front end. Combined with the STLC60133 class AB line driver or STLC60243 dual class G line driver, users can integrate all the functions from Utopia to line using 1.2 in.2 of board space and consuming 1.1W per line. The analog front end provides eight analog transceiver functions and interconnects the data pump to the line drivers and hybrid balance circuits. The STLC60844 is controlled by the STLC 60845 through a dedicated interface. The data pump comes in a 27 mm2 PBGA and the analog front end is available in a 12 mm2 LFBGA. Pricing is $12 per line for 100,000 lines/year. STMICROELECTRONICS, INC., Lexington, MA. (781) 861-2650.
